It’s not often four leading ladies of the West End and Broadway get together with a living rock legend to produce a single but when they do they do it in style!! Not only that, they do it for charity!!!
Taking their initiative from leading lady Mazz Murray (We Will Rock You), her sister Gina Murray (Chicago), Kerry Ellis (Wicked, West End/Broadway) and Anna Jane Casey (West Side Story/Forbidden Broadway) collectively known as ‘Woman’ have teamed up with the leg end that is Dr Brian May of Queen to produce the single ‘I’m A Woman’ sending all the proceeds to Breast Cancer Cares.
We finally managed to catch up with Mazz to chat to her about this exciting new venture. She told LL” My best friend Rebeka Gibbs (star of Fame and Casualty) was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. You don’t expect it to happen to you or your friends. Me and the girls are all in our early 30’s, it’s a disease that I always associated with my parent’s generation or even older and yet all of a sudden it’s ours.
We want to raise awareness of this hideous disease because early diagnosis can make all the difference to sufferers in the future.
There are plenty of girls making music out there but here come the women!
Were really pleased with the track and the girls are excited to be raising money for such a worthy cause that has indirectly and could directly affect any one of us.”
The track (soon to be sampled above) will be available before Xmas and we can expect to see much more of these girls, or should I say, women as they begin to perform their new single all over London.
